[livejournal.com profile] nmg has kindly picked seven interests for me to explain. if you want me to do you (or have other questions?), comment.

avoiding learning finnish. i am doing pretty well at this, and nobody has tried to lend me the Kalevala in Finnish for ages now. because from what I saw it was beautiful, so then I'd have to learn to understand it, but I can't be having with that.

chroming the moon. there is a usenet group called alt.pave.the.earth, which I used to read. the idea is to pave the entire surface of the earth, and then drive around in it in big cars. now, you may say we are well on our way, but actually we've only managed to pave a few percentage of it. obviously, once you have paved the entire earth, you need illumination for the cars during the night, so that's whe we want to chrome the moon as well.

socratic irony. i find asking people thoughtful questions, highlighting what i believe to be inconsistencies or counterfactuals in their position, to be a good form of debate, and the one most likely to have any result.

incongruous furniture. this dates back to when i moved to flat in leicester, which was all shiny and metal and chrome and new, and didn't much like that, so tried to fill it with things which did not fit with this. didn't work out particularly radical.

conlangs interest me. the biggest one I have ever made up is the Lamidav language, which was an alien language for the Cryosphere. Unfortunately, part of that page is a lie ("A partial Lamidav grammar and lexicon will appear here one day"), because I lost all my notes about it. It used infixes a lot.

pretending to be welsh. people on the internets sometimes assume 'morwen' is a welsh name. which it is. and that i am welsh. so i play along and when they ask me where i am from in wales, i claim to be from CaerlÅ·r (which is Welsh for Leicester). i even made a map to show where it is (see usericon). i don't know why.

bleeding ears. sometimes when i am at a gig, i will hang around at the speakers because i like the physical sensation of the noise. i sometimes also listen to loud music sometimes (less frequently now) despite having bad headache. i am silly and laugh at my noise-toleranace level.

Hope you had a good birthday and hope your head gets better.

re your interests: conlangs sounds interesting, I had no idea there were so many ppl creating them. However I can't help thinking that languages ought to evolve naturally rather then be created.
