I am thinking about trying to get back into writing. I've not done much of this over the last few years, partly because reach exceeds my grasp, and I kind of resent having to practice. I just want to be good straight away. So I was thinking about this, and when I have written, I've been writing for a particular audience (whether this be my schoolfriends, the users of my mud, a disk magazine, or a newsgroup).

So, maybe this is what I need to do?

I am thinking about a somewhat dystopian SF story in particular.

I'm avoiding all fiction filters in blogs. There are some good writers in my friendslist and I don't read any of them.

Make the practice fun?

That's the trick. Hmm. I don't want to waste my Really Good Ideas on practicing, because I want to do them properly. Maybe I should focus on writing about something else entirely?

Um. Just because you've used an idea in practising doesn't mean you can't do it again later For Realz. It's likely that good ideas will be improved by the development that happens when you play around with them. They don't disappear when you write them down... ;)

I too avoid all fiction filters, so I hope you don't mind the no. I also just can't keep up with my friends page in general (skip 250 today). There need to be more hours in the day.
